You are entitled to a free NHS Eye Examination if you fall into any of the following categories:

• You’re under 16
• You’re 16, 17 or 18 in full time education
• You’re over 60
• You’ve been registered as partially sighted or blind
• Aged 40 and above and the brother, sister, son or daughter of a person diagnosed with Glaucoma 
• Diagnosed with Glaucoma
• Diagnosed with Diabetes
• Need complex lenses (we can advise you of this)
• You or your partner receive Income support, income based job seekers allowance, working families tax credits, employment support allowance (ESA)
• You’re named on an full help HC2 NHS certificate may also get help towards the cost of their eye examination 

people named on a partial help HC3 NHS certificate may also get help towards the cost of their eye examination. 

You will also qualify for an NHS Optical voucher towards the cost of your spectacles /contact lenses if:

• You’re under 16
• You’re 16,17 or 18 in full time education 
• You need complex lenses (we can advise you of this) 
• You or your partner receive Income support, income based job seekers allowance, working families tax credits, employment support allowance (ESA), Pension Credit Gurantee. 
• You’re named on an full help HC2 

people named on a partial help HC3 NHS certificate may also get help towards the cost of their spectacles/contact lenses. 

Almost anyone can try contact lenses now even those with the most tricky of prescriptions. They can provide you with either an occasional or full time alternative to glasses wear. We provide FREE CONTACT LENS TRIALS TO EVERY PATIENT.

We stock all the latest products from all the main manufacturers meaning you always have access to the best products on the market. Daily disposables, monthly disposable, extended wear as well as Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses. 

Our main suppliers are Johnson and Johnson, Alcon, Coopervision and No 7.

Children's Eye examinations are free up to the age of 16 and up to 18 while in full time education. Children very rarely complain about their vision and that is why we recommend regular eye examinations to pick up otherwise undetected eye problems. Did you know that around 20% of school aged children have an undiagnosed vision problem? 

Good vision is important for your child’s development both educationally and socially and as their eyes are still developing during their early years, the sooner any problems are picked up the better. This can make a lasting difference to the child. 

Signs to look out for are:

• an eye drifting inwards or outwards 
• difficulty concentrating
• behavioural problems
• headaches
• sitting too close to the television
• frequent eye rubbing 

During every eye examination your child will receive a full and thorough eye examination, free Digital Retinal Photography as standard as well as Colour Vision Testing, 3D vision testing and many more checks. 

As well as wanting to ensure good eye health for your child, we feel it’s important that should your child require glasses, we provide them with glasses that they love! As well as providing a great range of FREE children’s eyewear, we have also sourced a wide range of different styles for your mini fashion icons, with children’s designer ranges such as Nike, Rayban, William Morris, Zoobug, Centrostyle, Marvel Superheroes, Disney Frozen, Disney Princess and Peppa Pig. 

As experienced opticians we believe in providing you with the very best in eyecare. That is why we are proud to offer OCT scanning to every patient. (Optical Coherence Tomography).
 An advancement on the traditional retinal photograph, OCT is a 3D ultrasound scan that allows us to see beneath the surface of the eye in a quick and non invasive manner.

This scan can enable the early detection of conditions such as Glaucoma, Macular degeneration and Diabetic Eye Disease.

Who should get an OCT scan? 

We would recommend OCT ideally for every patient, particularly those who are Diabetic or who have concerns about Glaucoma or Macular Degeneration. (if you have a family history). Essentially everyone can benefit from OCT scanning as it can pick up early signs of different eye conditions that would otherwise have gone undetected.

How much does an OCT scan cost? 

Here at Graeme Black Eyecare for a one off payment of £35 you will receive a lifetime of scans. This means at every eye examination you will receive an OCT scan. This enables us to provide a much more in depth examination of your eyes, earlier referral for any suspicious changes which in turn provides a much better prognosis for your vision.
